Nightmare before Christmas
It will take everything within me to keep this review civil and void of profanity or useless badgering.
We reside on Fort Irwin, CA where our only option is Verizon Highspeed DSL. FiOS is supposedly installed, but all technicians tell us it's still unavailable for our particular housing unit.
So we had to choose DSL. Here is a summary of our experience, not to include the countless hours spent trying to reach someone of use.
-Nov 16th DSL ordered, projected installation date Nov 25th
-Nov 20th UPS loses DSL kit, file claimed with UPS through Verizon
-Nov 25th Verizon sends our DSL kit to the wrong STATE.
-Dec 1st We get our DSL kit and service is turned on
-Dec 3rd Service is turned off in error- Technicians unavailable until Dec 8th
-Dec 8th Technician resolves issue
-Dec 18th Service is turned off in error- Technicians unavailable until JANUARY 2nd, 2009.
Having plenty of experience in networking and electronics, I told the 1st technician I predicted it was going to happen. The switch-box that activates / deactivates DSL service for our house is incorrect. Someone was going to come out and deactivate our service not knowing whose house he was deactivating. The technician said it was probably that that is what happened, and vowed to correct the mistake. A WEEK LATER the SAME THING happens AGAIN. And they can't send a technician our for TWO weeks?
(If the being without the internet doesn't seem a big deal to you, be a young man with modest military pay in a single income home with two young daughters and dependent on an internet business. Also 2000 miles away from family whose regular means of communication is e-mail and webcam.)
Merry Christmas Verizon. You've destroyed our family's communication with loved ones across the country in more ways than you would ever care to know.
