my phone broke, is there anyway i can get a free one?

i have the old alias (awfull phone never get it) and i broke it. So im about a year into my contract. And i know you can do an exception upgrade but im only 1 year into my plan, can i do it that early? OR does verizon have any basd free phones they can give me? cause i know cell phone companies have free phones but maybe theyre only for signing contracts. or if you cxant get a free phone what is the cheapest phone i could get with verizon?
