can anybody explain the update system on verizon?

my sister has the Samsung Glyde and i have the LG Chocolate (2nd Generation) and her Glyde broke but is still under warranty so we got a replacement, but she is using a flip phone that we have lying around, my Chocolate is up for an update in 6 months if i put my number on the Glyde does that delay the update or will it remain the same???
