I just bought a samsung 32\" LCD TV and I cant get it to auto detect the cable channels through my time warner dvr box. If I connect direct to the coaxil source no problem...but when I try to detect the channels through the dvr box it doesnt detect a single one! There are two coaxil connects on the tv (atn1 and atn2) I dont know if either one is a default or what but I have tried them both. Does anyone know of anything that I might be overlooking here?

When you connect to a cable box its using the tuner in the cable box, its the tuner inside the TV that would detect any incoming signals. SO if you had basic cable and no box, and plug direct into the tv, the tv can detect the channels. Its the TV tuner that detects the channels, the cable box doesn\'t send out the same type of signal for the tv to detect because when you change channels, you are changing channels on the box, not the TV. The signal is already being decoded by the box thats why you keep your tv on channel 3 all the time, switch to channel 4 you get \"snow\". The box is already doing all the work. If you want to use both the box tuner and the tv tuner you need a splitter to split the cable signal. The line would come out of your wall into the splitter. One line from the splitter goes directly into the tv, the other line goes in the box which then goes into your other input in your tv. Then you would use your tv remote to change between atn1 and atn2 on the tv thus using both the tv tuner and the cable box. This could enable you to record 2 things at the same time using your DVR and watch something else entirely on the input that is only using the TV tuner. The downside is that you will only be able to watch basic cable because you need the box to decode the premiere channels like HBO, showtime, etc.

I\'m not familiar with this box, but I\'ve worked with many types over the last 3 decades. I\'m thinking this is a cable box with a built in DVR. The box is what will find the channels, not your TV. So the coax cable will come from the wall jack into the box (\"cable in\" or some such nomenclature), and the out should attach to the TV. Whether you use ant1 or ant2 won\'t matter, just make sure that this is the source you select. So with the box on, put the TV on channel 3, and leave the channel there. Now with the box\'s remote change channels. I\'m assuming this is a hd cable box, if it is then using the component output jacks out of the box or HDMI will give you the best picture instead of coax.  Just remember to put the TV to the matching input, and leave it there, and let the box do all the channel selecting.

Your TV isn\'t getting a signal to detect. If you run coax to DVR box, you then run out from that with HDMI. Your box is now the tuner and your TV is simply a monitor.
