Ok i have a windows vista computer and currently i have a cable modem and it's really simple. When i plug in the ethernet cable into my router all the lights are on. When i go onto my laptop it just says it's connected but only local network or something like that and the modem and router seem to be working fine. Also I don't need any network adapters. 5 days ago i had qwest and that was over the phone line and the internet worked fine. I think it's because of the modem but im not sure. Does the type of modem affect anything? and if not then why did the other modem work and this one isnt?
Please help and thank you sooo much to those who do.

for that last few days ago i got same problem but i work now..

OK first make sure your computer have ethernet driver
if yes then test the modem one on one with the laptop.
ex
connect laptop directly to modem...1on1
if it work then you must have a bad router just like me.
if it doesnt work then there is a problem with the modem--call for a new free modem from your internet service. that should be it i think

your laptop and router are not commuicating with each other, networking is a little trickly, your modem  is okay just your, lan
connection the ip address  look at the bottom of your screen in the task bar  it look like two small monitors with lights blinking if not then
the problem lies within the device manager under adapters,it might be disable, let me give you a site to visit that will help you out at that site
input trobuleshooting a network connection or trobuleshooting a internet
cnnection
