she had a much faster computer could that be it?

also if i upgrade my modem could this help?
we do have the package.

my pc is 8 years long.. hers is pretty high end

it could be my pc and my poor router..(i run 2 other pcs)

There could be many reasons,

First, she might have a different package
second, the pc does play part in it...
third, the website where you run the test and the time of day you do it..

and many others, even the connection type makes a big difference..

When you say the same ISP (Cox), do you get the same connection speed as she does at her house?  That test will tell you if it's your PC or your "network".

Try that out (use the same software she does, test to the same site, etc, at the same time).  If she's still that much faster, it could be the type of wireless card you're using, and I doubt unless you have a dreadfully old computer that's what the problem is.

Also, Cox does have different speed packages that you can purchases.

If you're trying to download things on all 3 pc's at the same time then yes you're going to get speed degradation.
