So, I have a roommate that all I ask is $400 per month, the room itself is $422 (2 bed/1bath).  Before her, I have a friend that stays with me in the living room, and I ask her $250 (When she can.), so she'll give me $100 every 2/3 weeks, tops, we're all broke. (She helps with some bills and food.)

My roommate is now asking me to lower it down to $350 because quote, "She doesn't use Cable(TV)", but I explained to her that she's paying for only the room, technically the room itself is $422+Half Electric+Half Cox Cable etc.. ($500+) but had to rent the room out ASAP because of how crappy this economy is.

So in a sense, she's paying for renting the room, except the electric, we all use of course, everything else is extra (Water is free, gas is nothing).  I myself, lowered it for her because I needed someone in there.

I'm still working this all out, but because somehow, after helping a roommate/friend, I feel like the big "A-hoIe" now that I discuss and possibly won't?  Am I wrong out of all this?

I'm never once threw it out to help them, and lower the rent for them.  But.... *sigh*

I need opinions of the situation, so help me intranets peoplez.

"I have to find someone who can pay the full amount. When can I expect the room to be available?"

If I rented out a room and there would only be myself and the roomer, I would figure out my monthly expenses; e.g. mortgage pmts, property taxes (yearly divided by 12), and utilities (except cable) and divide by 2 to come up with a fair monthly rent.  As for the friend who lives with you I would divide all of the utilities by 3 and charge 1/3rd PLUS add a reasonable amount for food and crashing at your place.

I'm not quite sure what kind of roommate you have - a boarder or a real roommate.

Basically I would add utilities, food and mortgage pmts + property taxes (or monthly rent if you pay rent yourself) and divide by the # of people in the household to come up with their fair share and since the roommate doesn't use cable I would deduct that amount from her monthly payment to you.  I believe it should be as fair as possible and then everyone should be happy.

listen to the waves crashing or the wind howling thru the mountain tops
.we just got to do the best we can in this life, sometimes we got to make a change either for us or to us.always remember the good times.      after all we are just human, not the robots the government wants us to be!or slaves might be a better word.
