my internet keeps disconecting from ISP?

i have cox communications (cable internet) and every 3-5 min my modem (not router) disconnects and restarts it self.
can someone tell me what to do cause I already called Cox and they said that the signal is fine. and they said that my router has bad synchronization with my modem. but i already unplugged everything and replugged it all in
