Did someone just steal my cable?

I use Cox Communication for my TV & Internet Cable, today two guys, a near-bald older heavy set black guy with wide set eyes and a young kid about 15 showed up in some sort of uniform and walked around back, I thought nothing of it and went along my way to do homework at a bookstore. I came back, and my cable box is unlocked, and half of the guts are ripped out, and I do not get EITHER cable or internet service now, not even the basic local channels. What just happened?
Did someone just "steal" my cable?
and yes I have paid my bills, etc. all that, the issue isn't with me & the cable company didn't have a record of sending anyone to me
I already called my provider & they're sending someone to reconnect me tomorrow, I'm more interested in what the hell just happened & if anyone can elaborate

Did you forget to pay your cable bill? Have you been flaming or stalking their daughter/sister on the internet? Have you royally P****d anyone off recently?

WoW....that's different. Either those guys needed the parts inside or you didn't pay your bill and they disconnected you. Either way i would have contacted Cox as soon as you found out. I'm sure they have 24hr support.

was the person's race relevant to us answering your question? no.
it doesn't matter if you paid your bill or not. the techs have sheets that they go by that has a list of every house that should be active or disconnected with service. if they are techs, then there was an error on their sheet that listed you as disconnected, which is why the disconnected your service. what more than likely happened is someone gave them the wrong information when they asked for a list of disconnects (techs do this so that they can sell to them).
we have no idea if they were real techs or if they stole your wiring. you can call the cable company again and ask them if someone called in an audit on your house recently. they should have this information.
