Why does my new hd cable box lag?

I am just got an hd cable box and i am using it on my plasma tv and when i hit the guide button there is a few second lag. this cable box is from charter communications and cable.
Ok, but the weird thing is. is that the other hd box we have in our house doesnt lag at all. My room is outside of the house so that could be part of the difference
