Ask my question (GOOD) and ill give you 10 points.

Ok here is my problem. I have a computer that ran really good. I had no internet connection at the time. So the computer was working really great. Fast start ups no freezes nothing! I played games on it and all that NO PROBLEMS! Note: the pc I was using was a Windows XP service pack 1. Which needed to be upgraded to windows service pack 2. sooner or later. A couple months later I got Charter High Speed internet. The guy got the MODEM plugged in the power chords etc. Then he clicked on my internet explorer icon and the internet worked. Later that night I got on the computer then it says: YOUR COMPUTER MAY BE INFECTED OR INFECTED CLICK HERE FOR TESTINGS. So as soon as possible I thought it was my service pack 1. So I downloaded service pack 2. I turned on the firewall and everything was fine for that night. A couple days later thats when my computer began to act up and now it won't let me run it regulurlary I have to start it up in safe mode every time I truned it on. Sometimes the internet doesnt work. I NEED BIG HELP! I just want my pc to work NORMAL. to where I can start windows normally not in safe mode evry time (it makes me) and I want no worry from viruses and junk! My games don't work and theres NO soundon my speakers anymore! HELP! ITS GETTING OLD!

Would you consider a reinstall of XP? Since your games are not working, sound is not working, it might be best to just start over fresh. Unless, you have someone who can take a look at it, but I am assuming you don't or you wouldn't be asking here for help.

Unfortuantely, it seems that your computer has been infected by a virus. Have you been using a firewall and antivirus? If you are going to use the internet, (especially with internet explorer which is extremely insecure) a firewall and antivirus which is kept up to date is a must.

Removing a virus once it has gotten to that stage is extremely difficult and time consuming, so I'd have to recommend that you reformat your computer and reinstall windows. While you are in safe mode, try to back up all the files you want to keep. Before you restore the files back, make sure you scan then with a antivirus first.

And next time you go onto the internet, use firefox. It's a lot safer. =)

Well first off...there isn't any software for the modem, so that's not the problem.  Second, there are a lot of pop ups stating that your computer may be infected and instruct you to go to a site and download their software to scan for infections.  Have you tried doing a system restore?  Or service pack 3 even?  You do know that XP is not supported anymore too, right??  Maybe critical updates, but that's it.  The World is going to...and I hate to say it..Vista.  You can find Vista cheap online..I bought Vista Ultimate at Amazon.com for just over $100 brand new.  Once you get it working, consider using Firefox as your web browser.  It's safer and more secure than Internet explorer.

I had the same problem with my computer. What I did was called the tech support for my internet company and they said it was do to having the firewall up. If you call your internet company provider they may also do a scan from their office to see if it a problem on their end. Once I turned it off i was able to work the internet regularly. This may help.

You have limited experience - that is obvious.  Go to www.kimkommando.com and run one of the programs that scans your computer for spyware, malware or viruses.  Next, talk with charter and tell them your problem - the second you get back up to speed get popupblockers, anti-spyware, and anti-virus.   Good Luck.

IF YOU CAN,DOWNLOAD A COPY OF ANTI-MALWARE BYTES.MALWAREBYTES.ORG.ITS A FREE PROGRAM AND IS A REALLY SMALL FILE TO INSTALL.THIS PROGRAM SHOULD FIND ANY VIRUSES OR TROJANS OR WORMS THAT GOT IN DURING THE CHARTER INSTALLATION.IF YOU CANT GET ON THE INTERNET OR A HAVING PROBLEMS WITH START-UP,YOU WILL NEED TO BUY A PHYSICAL COPY OF NORTON OR MCAFEE AND INSTALL IT WITH YOUR CD DISK TO SCAN YOUR PC FOR VIRUSES AND PROBLEMS.
