I have "16 meg" high speed internet from Charter cable, and I generally run at about 10 - 12Mbps on
http://www.speedtest.net/The other day I split my cable so that I could hook up my modem and my TV up downstairs, so that in turn, I could hook up my Blu-Ray player to my network.
My question is this:
Will splitting like this slow down my connection? I am now getting speeds on the above site at around 4 - 5Mbps so it has slowed down a lot, and the internet is lagging over the past few days.
Could it be a low quality splitter, or is the act of splitting causing the problem?
I have not tried to unhook everything and try my internet without the splitter yet, because I'm tired of messing with the wires and it's 2:00am so I thought I would ask before I mess with all of this tomorrow.
Thanks, and if it is the splitter, will a higher quality splitter help? Mine was about $3 so it's pretty much just a simple splitter.
Edit: Speeds are Kbps, not Mbps
