HI there and thank you for taking the time to try to help me.

I have a MacBook running Mac Os X version 10.4.11.

I recently made the bad choice of trying to download a torrent. I\'m really new to this stuff, by the way. So anyways, when I downloaded the torrent and double clicked to open it Opera opened up..which I didn\'t know I had on my computer.

Then the problems started. My internet connection dropped. I am connected by AirPort and there are four computers in the house using the same internet connection which is provided by BellSouth.

All the other computers in my house have internet connection except mine. This is really frustrating. I made sure to uninstall Opera and I also got rid of the Torrent. What\'s going on?

I\'ve tried on my own to fix the problem but to no avail.

Can you please help me? I think I\'ve learned my lesson about torrents. :*(

Just for the record, torrents are generally safe. What happened to your MacBook is not necessarily related to someone\'s evil plan hidden in a torrent download.

You ask, \"What\'s going on?\" Your network connection has been changed. It could be related to the opening of Opera. How come you have Opera by accident? This computer must have had a previous owner or other current user. I wonder how many other surprises await...

Let\'s assume the only thing going on here is that the network setting has been changed. Let\'s assume also that when you say \"I am connected by AirPort\" that you mean you have an Apple Airport base station. The fix could be as easy as clicking the Airport icon in the top menu bar and choose the name of your base station. If Airport is off, click to turn it on and wait a few seconds for the available base station(s) to appear. Then choose the name of your base station. If that does not work, read on.

You say there are four computers on the network. How did that happen? Did you set up this network? Are the other computers connected \"by Airport\"? They could be Macs using Airport cards or they could be PCs using whatever.

Open Airport Setup Assistant and it will find your Airport base station. No idea what \"Bell South\" has provided for your type of account, but let\'s assume it is a DSL/ADSL modem. Let\'s assume the Airport base station is connected to a router. That means the base station needs to be configured for DHCP.

If your network is more complicated, go to the link below an choose the appropriate guide.
